”Kap Verde”, Evert Taube, 1890 – 1976.

Nationalskalden, musikern, poeten, trubaduren, författaren, konstnären, äventyraren och legenden Evert Taube är sveriges kanske mest folkkäre artist.

Evert Taube beskriver utan nationalistiska övertoner det sverige vi alla tycker mest om, på ett sätt som nästan överträffar verkligheten.
Detta är Everts styrka, att så många känner igen sig i det han skriver, oavsett om det är hemma eller borta, stadslivet eller naturen, sorg, kärlek, glädjen eller harm, kampen för överlevnad eller äventyret.

Erik Forsman levde (1916-1976) Efter Otte Skölds målarskola fick han sin första beställning från Marabou att illustrera annonser, 1945 började han måla motiv till julkort, bonader m.m  som blev det han livnärde sig på under kommande 30 år. De första decennierna av 1900-talet trycktes bonader upp efter målade förlagor. Flitiga konstnärer var just Erik Forsman, Jenny Nyström, Curt Nyström, Lars Carlsson och Aina Stenberg-Masolle m.fl Dessa har idag blivit stora samlarobjekt och då mycket på grund av nostalgi till den Svenska Julen.

Stig Wennström introduktion:

Stig Wennström, född 1938, började tidigt måla. Redan som 14-åring satt han hemma i köket på Sollenkroka, Vindö, och målade sina gubbar. Stig är av bondesläkt och hans förfäder har i generationer brukat jorden på Vindö i Stockholms skärgård. Men Stig ville något annat.

Redan som 17-åring lämnade han Vindö för Stockholm. För att försörja sig, det är svårt för en yngling leva på sin konst, gick han i lära hos förgyllare Gösta Larsson med Firma JP Larsson. Larsson var sin tids skickligaste hantverkare och lärde upp en hel generation förgyllare. Stig stannade 10 år och blev mästare.

På nätterna mellan klockan 11 och ett satt han hemma och målade tavlor. En vana som han hållit fast vid. Till glädje och nytta fanns också studieklubbar och konstskolor för den ambitiöse ynglingen. En studieresa till Grekland fick honom att uppleva ljuset och havets mäktiga färger.

Något som han ofta återvänt till i sitt måleri. Men tryggheten fick honom att fortsätta med förgyllarverksamheten. Tillsammans med tre kamrater upplärda av Larsson tog han över en ramateljé som okomplicerat döptes till Nils Löfgrens efterträdare.

Under fem år var han också anställd av Nationalmuseum, konstens högborg, ansvarig för museets ramateljé. Under åren har konstköparna varit muséer, gallerier, konstföreningar och trogna konstsamlare. Förgyllarateljén finns fortfarande kvar för en liten krets konnässörer som uppskattar hantverk och söker vackra, litet udda ramar.

Mark Hampson (1968 – )

Born 1968

Mark Hampson is a UK based Painter, Printmaker and Educator living in London. He is currently working both as an Artist in Residence with the Royal Academy of Arts specialist Library and Archives and as Senior Tutor in Printmaking at The Royal College of Art where he has worked since 1997.

Since his first solo show at the Beaux Arts in London 1994 he has presented over 25 solo exhibitions including “We notable Calgarians” at The Deans Gallery, Calgary, “Making ‘Nowhere’ ‘Somewhere’” at the William Morris Gallery, London and “We pay cash for Dead Artists” at The Foyer Gallery, Aberdeen, all in 2008. His international solo shows include “England Away!” at the Aoyama Gallery in Tokyo, (2002), “Goodge Street Portraits- morning, noon and night”, Henry Peacock Gallery (1999), “ The Blattoids”, Lawrence Graham Gallery, London (2005), Galleri “M”, Stockholm (1997,1995,1992), and “Line Art”, Ghent (1996). In addition he has contributed to numerous international group exhibitions and art surveys, throughout Europe, the USA, Japan and Korea. Recent shows include “Print without Borders”- Horst Jansen Museum, “International Print Triennale”- Krakow and shows at the Arthavs Museum, Vienna all in 2010.

He has been awarded several international prizes including The Bronze medal at The Osaka Triennale for Arts in 1997, the special prize of the Maloposhie Volvodeship at The Krakow International Print Triennale in 2005 and the first ever Susan Kaser Summer Award in 1992.

His work is represented in many private and public collections including The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Arts Council of Great Britain, Krakow City Museum, The Nickles Museum, Hyundai Arts Collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Arts, Osaka Prefectural Government, Gyor City Arts Museum, Sony and Tama Arts University Collection. He has curated many group exhibitions including the trilogy of shows “The Sedulous Ape” from 2000-2003 at The Strawberry Ridge Gallery, USA for Hartford Art School, “Sense and Form” with Renata Nurnberger for ConsumenArt at Mezzentun, Nuremberg, and “Pick ‘n’ Mix” for Leytonstone Arts Trail.

The following information was submitted by the artist’s brother Thomas Appleby, Sr:
Theodore Franklin Appleby, Jr., an Abstract Impressionist artist, was born January 28, 1923 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He attended the Pauling School in New York City, where he was captain of the football and basketball teams. He studied at the atelier of John COrneal (1938-1939).
On December 12, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and saw action in 1945 in the Marshall Islands namely Kwajalein, Eniwetok, and Engebi. Later he was stationed from 1945-1946 at Yokohama, where he studied Japanese engravings. He remained in the Pacific Theater until his discharge as a Sergeant in 1946.

During a stay in Mexico from 1947-1948, he studied monumental mural painting at St. Michele de Allende University.

The following year he went to Paris. He regularly visited the atelier of Fernand Leger and was represented every year from 1950-1952 in the ”Salon de Novelles Realitees”. Appleby is one of numerous Americans who became part of the artistic Parisian scene.

From 1955 to 1961, Appleby was part of group expositions in Chicago, Leverkusen, Germany, Lisbon, Portugal, London, England, Paris, France, and others. He also organized three solo exhibitions during this period: in 1956 at the Studio Facchetti in Paris; 1957 at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York City; and in 1959 in Paris, a double exposition with Ralph Stackpole at the American Cultural Center. In 1957 his work was celebrated by the Chicago Art Institute.

Appleby later moved to the South of France settling in Alba Ardeche until his death in 1987. He was predeceased by his wife, artist Hope Manchester. He is survived by his sister Mrs. Levis Minford of Linville, North Carolina, and brother Thomas Appleby, Sr. of Ocean City, New Jersey.
